We made our way past Indianapolis and decided it was time to stop for the night. It was still early but Kayleigh was already done with being in the car. We tried stopping a half hour earlier but were told that everything was booked up because of a llama show. That’s right, I said LLAMA! Not sure what that is but it sure sounds like something I’d love to go to!!
Since they were booked, we made a quick reservation on Booking.com for an affordable nearby hotel. We ended up at a Days Inn in the town of Terra Haute. My priority is simply 2 beds, non smoking and breakfast.
We checked in around 7:30pm. The lady at the desk was nice but not very conversational. I like talking with the people while they’re checking me in. Just something I do.
I drove over to the side of the building where our room was. There was a man standing at his door just smoking, staring at us while we pulled in and started taking out our bags. He made us a little uncomfortable but we just kept getting our stuff.
The Room
The room reeked of cigarette smoke, even though it’s a non-smoking room. My guess is a lot of people just stand at the door and smoke. The smell was just so gross.
The room looked ok. Nothing fancy, which was just fine. We just needed a room for the night, we weren’t planning on staying long.
The bathroom was small and snug. There was hair in the shower, which was really nasty to me. We didn’t end up showering just because we were so grossed out by it.
The beds were comfortable. Kayleigh just wanted to get out of the place and said that she felt like she was being bitten but I never saw anything in the beds and she didn’t have any bite marks on her.
Breakfast
We checked out early so we could hit the road early but wanted some breakfast before heading out. We stopped in the lobby and I got some coffee while Kayleigh checked out the breakfast food.
I never even made it far enough to look at the food because she was already back complaining about it. She says that there was food out but there were no plates or bowls to eat anything. I believe it since there were no lids for the coffee and no cups for the juice, which didn’t even work anyway.
We just ate some muffins in the car that I had brought with us.
Rating
On a cleanliness scale, I would give this place a 6/10. It smelled so bad and the bathroom was pretty gross.
On a friendliness scale, I would say a 7/10. The front desk woman was ok; not terrible. She didn’t talk much but I guess I didn’t really try to talk to her either and ended up on my phone.
The breakfast scale is an important one for us. We enjoy eating our breakfast before heading out for the morning and it can make a big difference about how far we can make it before having to stop again. We give this one a 2/10. They had breakfast but there was nothing to eat it with so it was kind of pointless to even waste the food that way.
Overall, I would give this place a 5/10 and I think that’s being generous. This is definitely not a place that I would come back to. This room cost us $73.00 for the night.
